What better way to celebrate World Bee Day on 20 May than with a honey inspired cocktail?
1. THE BEE'S KNEES
2 ounces gin 3/4 ounces fresh lemon juice 1/2 ounces honey syrup* Garnish: lemon twist
Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist. *Honey syrup: Add 1/2 cup honey and 1/2 cup water to a small saucepan over medium heat. (You can experiment and decide how much of a honey flavour you want in your syrup. The more honey you use, the thicker the syrup and stronger in flavour it will be.) Stir until blended. Strain into a jar and seal tightly with a lid. Will keep for 1 month in the refrigerator.
2. GOLD RUSH
2 ounces bourbon 1 ounce honey syrup* 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice Garnish: lemon peel
Add all the ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake for 30 seconds. Strain into a chilled rocks glass with one large ice cube. Garnish with a lemon peel.
3. HONEY BEE
1.7 ounces light white rum ½ tablespoon runny honey ½ tablespoon warm water 0.5 ounces fresh lemon juice Ice Lemon zest curl - to garnish
Put the honey and warm water in a cocktail shaker and stir it until the honey has dissolved
the honey has dissolved
Add the rum, lemon juice and some ice and shake well
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass
Garnish with a lemon zest curl
4. MILK & HONEY
1 1/2 ounces Benedictine
3 teaspoons runny honey 6 ounces milk (or enough to fill) Garnish: orange slice Garnish: cinnamon stick
Pour Benedictine and honey into a stemmed goblet or mug, add a few ice cubes, and top with cold milk. Stir well. Garnish with a slice of orange and a cinnamon stick. Serve and enjoy!
