From creams that tap into the power of Romney wool to moisturisers using organic New Zealand beeswax and wild orange, we've compiled a list of the best Kiwi skincare products to get you through the colder months.
1) Dream Cream Face Gold
This is one of our favourite New Zealand skincare products of all time. The first of the Gold Label series, Face Gold is an exquisite face cream made with Organic Golden Jojoba Oil, Organic Rosehip Oil, Organic NZ Beeswax, a calming blend of Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential oils (including liberal amounts of Frankincense) and Turmeric Essential oil.
It is incredibly rich so you only need a tiny amount. A little goes a long way. Having said that, we have found it is not at all greasy and the skin absorbs it really nicely. We use it every night and have noticed a significant difference in the texture of our skin, it is noticeably softer and more luminous. As an added bonus, it also seems to tackle the fine lines around the eyes! $45 per pot. dreamcream.co.nz.
2) Sub + Arctic Renewal Night Cream
The science behind the Sub&Arctic skincare products is mind-blowing. The patented technology in the Sub + Arctic Renewal Night Cream heals wrinkles where they start, by encouraging the skin to produce the right collagen in the right place, rebuilding skin structure and reversing wrinkle formation.
Night Renewal is rich in vitamins (A, B, E) omega fatty acids and plant esters to nourish and repair your skin while you sleep. Ingredients such as Shea butter help to protect the epidermis and maintain the integrity of the stratum corneum while hyaluronic acid is a powerful, topical humectant and moisturising agent. Lab tested benefits include a 20% sustained improvement in skin moisturization within 5 days. $105.00. subandarctic.com.
3) Oasis Beauty Rhino Repair
Trusted for over 10 years in New Zealand, Rhino Repair is made using a powerhouse of 12 awesome, natural ingredients. They are New Zealand honey, neem, vitamin E, echinacea, aloe vera, castor oil, calendula, rosemary, chamomile, lavender and rosehip.
Rhino Repair is so gentle that you can you use it from top to toe, even around the eyes and all the places in-between. It’s suitable for all the family - young and old, pregnant women, babies and geriatrics.
We love Rhino Repair and use it whenever we have dry, chapped skin or need to relieve itchy or flaky skin (all too common during winter!) $34.99. oasisbeauty.com.
4) Au Natural Skinfood Repair Manuka Honey Lip Balm
The delicate skin on the lips can really suffer when the temperatures dip, becoming dry, chapped and sore. We've all been there! An excellent lip balm can make such a difference. Au Natural Skinfood’s Repair Manuka Health Lip Balm is naturally rehydrating, reviving and plumping, sealing in moisture while repairing damage. By plumping and giving more structure to the lips themselves, the appearance of fine lines above the lips is reduced. It is 100% natural, formulated with Active 16+ Manuka honey, beeswax and sunflower oil. $12.95. aunaturalskinfood.com.
5) Hayley Benseman Divinity Hand Cream
The hands are another part of the body that can become incredibly dry during winter. Unsurprisingly, this is down to a lack of moisture. During winter, the humidity in the outside air plunges. Inside, things are even drier, thanks to indoor heating. If you're washing your hands frequently to avoid catching a cold or the flu, you could also be sapping whatever natural oils are left in your skin.
We recommend using a rich, high-quality hand cream every day. Our favourite at the moment is Divinity Hand Cream from Hayley Benseman. It contains sweet almond oil, golden jojoba oil, organic shea butter and a number of essential oils, such as lavender, vanilla and ylang ylang. It smells delicious and is a real treat to use, you can feel it soaking deep into the skin. We like slathering it on before bedtime and letting it do its work overnight. $29.50. hayleybenseman.co.nz.
